Informations sur l'hôte
We welcome you to our home and hope you will enjoy your stay with us. We moved here in 2015 and are renovating an old farmhouse, the guest area of which is now finished. We are aiming for a good blend of the old wood and stone with modern facilities and comforts. The living area is built around two sides of an old barn and the old milking parlour is now a new large family kitchen. Upstairs, your room is part of the new addition across the front of the house where the old hayloft used to be. Adjacent, is the large bathroom for your exclusive use, previously an old bedroom, now completely refurbished. Your facilities include a full sized bath, separate shower cubicle, toilet, wash basin, heated towel rail, hair dryer, towels and toiletries. We have a large covered terrace which you are welcome to use. Two elderly donkeys, owned by a local farmer, are likely to come and see you as they are very inquisitive. They are well fenced in so you can view them from a distance if you prefer!
We decided to move here after having watched far too many TV programmes about renovating old properties - which we then started to do. When we arrived with a car full of stuff and awaiting the removal van from the UK we really wondered what on earth had made us do such a crazy thing. The house was empty and forlorn and it was pouring with rain. There have been many challenges but we seem to have come through most of them reasonably intact and now feel this is very much our home as well as our house. Barrie still does some work on an occasional basis as well as most of the renovating. I do some voluntary work, upholstery and sewing, run the chambre d’hôte and do a lot of research to do with our renovations here. We have joined in the village activities and made new friends - French, English and from many other countries too. We continue to find learning French quite tricky but can see definite improvement and can speak French with our French guests.
Our village is situated in the Gironde close to the border with Lot et Garonne. The village is quiet although, as part of a rural community, there are occasional tractors and chickens clucking. There are vines within a few metres of the house and lovely local walks which we can show you. We are well placed for a wide range of activities from meditation to canoeing and many opportunities for tasting the delightful wines of Bordeaux, Duras, Montbaziac, Bergerac and Montravel to name just a few of the local appellations. Some of the châteaux also sell other regional produce such as prunes, nuts and foie gras. Our visitors have also found us to be a well placed for their visits to the local Orthodox Christian community at Monestier or the Buddhist centre at Plum Village. There are great restaurants locally, which we are happy to book for you, and we are about a 50 minute drive from St. Emilion which provides a delightful outing. The towns and attractions of the Dordogne are also accessible from here as are some excellent markets. We are a 35 minute drive from Bergerac airport and are happy to give you an early morning wake-up call and breakfast if you are travelling.
